To Create the Link(s) in a Word Document
This is an extremely important step and is not to be confused with opening a document (pdf) and coping the URL address from the address toolbar.
Note: If you copy the URL from the toolbar and you need to move files and directories in the future, the links within the main document that you are referencing will not work.
Important Note: The URL is distinctly different shown in this image:
A right click copies the correct address that the Content Management System has assigned to this link.
http://cstools.asme.org/csconnect/FileUpload.cfm?View=yes&ID=15573
Copying the URL just copies the address were it can be located for the time being. If the file is moved, the links will no longer work.

To create your links in your main document (eg, minutes or agendas) you will access the posted document (links) that you have linked, on C&S Connect using the Content Management System (CMS). This will allow the system to create a unique file ID, to the location of that file. Once you have your documents (links) posted, right click on the first link and select Copy Shortcut.
You will use the Link Tool located in your Advanced editing Tool Bar to link the documents.
Using the Link Tool (see image above) draw a box around the text that you wish to link.
This will bring up the Create Link Dialogue Box. Choose Open a Web Page
In the Address Box - Right Click and select Paste. (The address box will now contain the address from the file that you copied in the short cut.)
Click on OK to finish this link.
When the link(s) are created in the Acrobat File, you are know ready to post to the web.
Open the main document in Adobe Acrobat to create the hyperlink.
Minimize your Acrobat window
Go back to C&S Connect to where your documents (links) are posted, right click on the first link and select Copy Shortcut.
Minimize the I.E. window and toggle back (Ctrl+Tab) to your main document in Acrobat.
Once you have Right Clicked and copied the Link correctly, minimize the I.E. window and go back to your main document in your Microsoft Word.
(By pressing ALT & TAB buttons simultaneously you can toggle between these applications)
Go to the page and highlight the wording(s) you want to hyperlink
From the Main Menu select Insert Hyperlink (Hot Keys - Ctrl K)
A dialogue box will appear asking to Type the file or web page name.
Note: To Paste, use the Hot Keys (Ctrl – V)
Note: The web address is specified
D. Click on OK
If you have linked the file correctly, the wording that was highlighted, should now have the characteristics of a hyperlink.
To test the link:
Click on the hyperlink and your I.E. Window should open (in this case a PDF) with the referenced file located on C&S Connect.
In most cases, the Adobe Acrobat window will open within the Internet Window. This depends on your individual system settings.
